Twenty-five years ago I would have thought this was unbelievable. Having a presence on the internet talking about my life's biggest change (aside from becoming a husband and father). Specifically, "evolving" from a strong Catholic believer to a free atheist!
Who'd a thunk it?
But I'm not here just to navel-gaze upon my own changes. I'm here to relate what I consider to be the truth. Mainly that religion is (mostly) false, prayer is worthless, the Jesus of miracles never existed, and God is totally made up. Posts about these and other topics will follow.
Now as for my tone. As the Merry Atheist, I'm not one of those angry atheists you see and hear about. I listened to enough fire and brimstone from believers when I was one. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. You won't hear much anger and ALL CAPS SCREAMING from me. I try to be a bit more reasonable in my remarks because life is great and there's no need to yell.
I won't say I don't judge, because I do. But I judge ideas, not people. I'm not here to insult or belittle believers. Many of my best friends are believers, and we respect each others views, even if we totally disagree. If you're a believer, I'm sure we too can be friends.
And the first trick to being friends, is to be friendly. And that's what I'm gonna try to be here.
